ITS FOOD & DRINK
This Region features ancient and consolidated traditions, offers a genuine and quality gastronomy. The secret is the simplicity of the dishes together with the elaborate preparation that enhances the tastes and aromas of the food. Gastronomy has such an important role in the Val d'Aosta culture, that many are the festivals and events bonded to food, they represent the traditional feasts of the recurrent events in the agricultural life, like grape and wheat harvest, or the bread making for winter. Among the specialties there is the 'black bread', prepared in turns by the families in the ancient public ovens, or the Cured Ham of Bosses, existing since 1397, by delicate and slightly ferine taste; the 'seupa vapelenentse' or Vallepelline soup, a typical poor cooking mountain dish were the stale bread was alternated to the Fontina, a typical cheese of the area, and mixed to a vegetable broth, with some adding of melted butter and cinnamon sprinkles. Valle D'Aosta is also famous for its wines, many D.O.C. labels among full-bodied reds and delicate whites.

Valle D'Aosta offers real unique sceneries in the world, surrounded by the highest peaks in Europe, the awe inspiring Monte Bianco (4807 m), the fascinating Mount Cervino (4478 m), the Gran Paradiso Massif, the spectacular Monte Rosa. There are very famous Ski resorts like Courmajeur, Cervinia, St.Vincent, Gressoney and many others, with their modern equipments, efficient and adequate, and the care of all details, donates unforgettable sojourns to the mountain enthusiasts. The Courmajeur stands at the bottom of a bowl surmounted by the abiding glaciers of Monte Bianco, embedded between the rocks and snow, equipped with cableways, chair and ski lifts. A lot of sport in a wonderful Region: alpine, downhill and country cross ski, but also rafting, canyoning, hydrospeed, climbing, trekking and summer disciplines where it is possible to walk along alpine paths enjoying an endless and immortal landscape. |
