During my time in Rome I started thinking about how much I
love pizza...and how often I eat it!!
It's amazing how many pizza places there are throughout this city.
A walk about town and I find myself constantly stopping for a bite at a 'pizza a taglio'
, with all their mouthwatering selections. Pizza is one of those foods I cannot
get tired of. I'm even craving it when I'm at a restaurant and having 'un
primo' or 'un secondo', it seems I just have to order my pizza!
Roman style pizza is incredibly thin, unlike the pizza you'll find in Naples
that is thicker and doughier.. i Romani are not afraid of loading it up. At the
famous Baffetto Pizzeria near Piazza Navona I had a Quattro Stagione with an egg
plopped in the middle, it was heavenly, and I must confess, the next night at
Pizzeria Ivo in Trastevere, I ordered the exact same pizza. I do not know what
it is about pizza, but a friend once said, and I think it rings true: 'Even
when pizza is bad it's good!!' Fortunately for me, in Rome it's generally very
very good.
A presto! |
