July 3, 2007
Regular viewers of David Rocco's Dolce Vita know that I have a real connection to the town of Ravello. It's a gorgeous, small town along the Amalfi coast with breathtaking views. It's my favourite place to visit in Italy, and believe me, that's really saying something.
And it was on my mind this past weekend. The July first weekend is the start of the annual Ravello Music Festival, that runs until the end of September. The theme of this year's festival is “Passione”.
The festival is divided up into 8 sections and each one honors one of the great artists who has stayed and was inspired by Ravello. One of the sections that caught my attention is the CineMusic program. This year it's directed by the great Italian filmmaker Lina Wertmuller. The program has a series of concerts and screenings that explore the relationship between Film and Music. It sounds incredible!
And in Ravello, the settings are as exciting as the content. The concerts are held in the magical settings of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone and as well throughout the town's squares, churches and gardens.
My favourite location in the Ravello festival is set up at Villa Rufolo, a beautiful garden just off the main piazza. The main Stage for the Orchestra is constructed over a cliff to give the appearance that the musicians are floating in air like a cloud. Every so often during the festival a performance will be given at 4:30am with the backdrop of the morning sunrise. Nina and I caught one of these sunrise concerts a few years back and it was absolutely magical!!!

This years Ravello Music Festival runs from June 30th to September 30 2007.
